Founded in 1971, Amtrak is the National Railroad Passenger Corporation of the United States. It has a presence in 46 out of the adjoining states, along with the District of Columbia, which is the only Thruway connecting services in Wyoming, and has no services in South Dakota. The most popular and accessed systems are the Northeast Corridor, including Acela and the Northeast Regional trains. Four out of the six busiest stations are on the NEC, including Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.
Amtrak also offers USA and California Rail passes, valid for 10 rides in 30 days and 7 days, respectively. With records of serving 32.4 million passengers in 2024, it has become the most prominent train company, offering more than 500 destinations along 21,400 miles.
